Buying Tickets Without a Chinese Phone Number

Most popular attractions in China require online booking — and many systems are built around Chinese national ID numbers. Here's how foreigners can still get in.

📋
Always carry your passport. Foreigners use passport number instead of national ID for ticket verification. Many attractions have dedicated foreigner ticket windows — look for signs saying "外籍人员通道".

Buying Tickets on-site (Walk-up)
If needed
  1. 1
    Find the foreigner window (外籍人员窗口)
Major attractions have dedicated windows. They're often less crowded than the main Chinese queue. Ask a staff member if you can't find it.
  2. 2
    Show your passport
Your passport number is entered instead of a Chinese ID. The ticket is linked to your passport. Keep it on you when you enter.
  3. 3
Payment: WeChat Pay, Alipay or sometimes cash
On-site windows may not take cards. Have WeChat Pay ready or a small amount of cash. Some popular sites now only sell tickets online — check the attraction's page on this site first.
🚨
Book ahead for popular sites. The Palace Museum (Forbidden City) and some Great Wall sections sell out days in advance, especially on weekends and public holidays. Walk-up tickets may not be available.
